In short
- The app compresses videos and photos on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
- There is no account and no sign-in.
- The app has no analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive no payment details.
- The website tools also work inside your browser, without uploading your files.
The Metras app
The app reads the videos and photos you allow it to access, makes smaller copies and saves them where you choose. All of this happens on your iPhone. We do not receive your videos, your photos or information about them, and the app does not send them to any server.
The app does not collect personal data about you, and it does not contain third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software.
Photos and files
The app asks for access to your Photos library for two reasons only: to read the videos and photos you want to compress, and to save the compressed copies you create. It also accepts files you pick or share into it from other apps. Your originals are not deleted unless you decide so.
You can change or withdraw this access at any time in the iPhone Settings. Compressed copies you share with other apps or services are then handled by those apps under their own rules.
Notifications
The app can show local notifications, for example when a compression has finished. They are created on your iPhone. The app does not use push notifications from a server. You can turn them off in the iPhone Settings.
Purchases
The optional Premium upgrade is a one-time purchase made through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and the purchase records under Apple’s privacy policy. We receive no payment data and no information that identifies you. The app only checks with Apple’s StoreKit system on your device whether the purchase has been made.
This website
The compression tools on this website run in your browser. The files you choose are processed on your device and are not uploaded.
At the time of writing the website does not use analytics, does not set cookies and does not store information in your browser beyond what the page needs while it is open.
The website is delivered by a hosting and content-delivery provider. Like any web server, it may process technical data such as your IP address and the pages requested in order to deliver the site and keep it secure. We do not use this data to identify you.
Advertising (not active yet)
The website does not show advertising at the moment. If we start showing ads, for example through Google AdSense, this policy will be updated before they go live, and it will describe the cookies and similar technologies used, who sets them and how you can accept or refuse them.
The app does not show advertising from third-party advertising networks and does not track you.
When you contact us
If you write to [email protected], we use your email address and your message only to answer you and to keep a record of the request. We keep it for as long as needed for that purpose. We do not sell it or use it for marketing.
Where we process personal data, for example your email message or technical server data, we do so because it is necessary to answer your request or to run and secure the service (legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), or to carry out a purchase you made (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have it corrected or erased;
- restrict or object to its processing;
- receive it in a portable format, where this applies;
- complain to a supervisory authority. In Greece this is the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, or the authority in the country where you live.
To use these rights, write to [email protected]. Because the app keeps your videos and photos only on your device, we cannot see or delete them for you; you control them in the app and in the Photos app.
Children
The app and the website are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when the website starts to show ads or when the app changes. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version.
