        Short answer

To compress video under 10 MB for work email, choose it above and keep the 10 MB size. Work servers count the whole message after the attachment has been encoded, which makes it about 37% larger, so a 10 MB limit holds a video of about 7 MB. The tool aims for 7.2 MB automatically.

How to compress video to 10 MB

        1. Choose the video

Pick the MP4 or MOV you want to bring below 10 MB. When you compress video below 10 MB, short clips come out cleanest, and the file never leaves your device while it is compressed.

        2. Keep the 10 MB size

The size is preset to 10 MB with strict work email in mind. Because email encodes attachments, the tool does not aim for 10 MB. It aims for about 7.2 MB, so the message comes to 10 MB or less once it is sent.

        3. Compress

Press Compress video to reduce the video size to 10 MB. The plan on screen shows the picture size, frame rate and bitrate first. If the first pass lands over the target, the tool lowers the bitrate and the resolution, then encodes again.

        4. Check how it counts

When the video is ready, the result shows its real size and how much it counts for as an email attachment. Download the MP4 and attach it as usual.

Work email limit: 10 MB by default

Microsoft gives 10 MB as the default limit for Exchange accounts, the business email many organizations use, and counts the attachment and the email together. It is a default, so your organization may use another figure. A file counts about 37% heavier once it is inside an email, which is why the tool aims lower to shrink video to 10 MB with room to spare. Most of the big email services allow more: see the email attachment size limits. The same tool has other sizes: compress video to 8 MB for an even smaller file, and compress video to 50 MB for a larger one.

        Limit Figure What counts
Exchange business email, default 10 MB The whole email: the attachment and the email together
What that holds as a video file About 7.2 MB Attachments grow by about 37% when they are encoded for email, so the file itself has to be smaller than the limit

        Questions about 10 MB videos

How to make a video under 10 MB?

To compress video to 10 MB or less, choose it above, keep the 10 MB size and press Compress video. The tool plans the bitrate from the length of the video, aims for about 7.2 MB and checks the result, lowering the resolution if it has to.

Why does a 10 MB limit hold only about 7 MB of video?

Email turns attachments into text before it sends them, and that makes them about 37% larger. A 10 MB limit that counts the encoded message therefore holds roughly 7 MB of file, and the tool aims for 7.2 MB so the message ends up under 10 MB.

How long of a video is 10 MB?

For strict work email the tool aims for 7.2 MB, and at good quality that holds about 12 seconds at 1080p, 27 seconds at 720p and 58 seconds at 480p. A plain 10 MB file holds about 16 seconds, 36 seconds and 1 minute 17 seconds. A longer video is scaled down, and the plan warns you when the size is tight. For any other length, use the video size calculator.

        Can I compress a 1GB video to 10 MB?

What decides the result is the length of the video, not how big the original was. A short clip from a 1 GB file can come down to 10 MB. A long one cannot keep a clear picture at that size, and the tool says so before you start and tells you by how much a result is still over.

Can I compress video to 10 MB without losing quality?

No compression is free of loss, and 10 MB is a tight size. The tool lowers the resolution instead of leaving a blocky picture, so a short clip looks acceptable on a phone. Play the result before you download it, and choose a larger size if it looks too soft.

Is 10 MB really my limit at work?

Often, but not always. Microsoft calls 10 MB the default for Exchange accounts, so your organization may use a different figure. Ask your administrator if you are unsure. If your work account allows 20 MB, see how to compress video for Outlook.

Is there a 10 MB video compressor that works without uploading?

This one does. It is free, needs no sign-up, and converts the video in your browser, on your own device, so nothing is sent to a server. It works in current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox.

How do I compress an iPhone video to 10 MB?

Open this page in Safari on your iPhone, choose the video from your photo library and press Compress video. Keep the page open until the download is ready. The result is an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound.
